Antonio Matallana (1953)
Egg tempera & oil on panel
27 x 22 cm
Antonio Matallana's egg tempera painings on panel, often show photorealistic still lives of every day objects which come to the front sharply through bright colors and lighting. Folded cloths and tin cans stand out from the background, emphasized by their dissolved projected shadows. Matallana's compositions and subjects tease the viewers' imagination, or perhaps familiar memories, through timeless objects.
Born in Spain in 1953, Matallana studied at the Faculty of Fine Art in Seville from 1970 to 1975 - and was awarded the Degree of Professor of Fine Art in 1975. He then studied at the Ecole Superieure des Beaux Arts, Rouen, France from 1976 to 1977. He currently lives and works in Paris.
