description
This rare and exceptionally atmospheric masterpiece from the autumn of 1909 marks the exact year Jan Sluijters settled in the famous artists' colony of Laren, laying the foundations for his iconic modernism. In 'Evening Atmosphere near Laren', the tranquil, blue evening glow and the slender autumn trees display a fabulous luminist play with the very last daylight on the farmyard. This specific autumnal setting, with its characteristic barn and wooden fencing, forms the direct geographical and visual cradle for his legendary Moonlight series (1910–1912).
