description

Nancy Poeran’s work centres on how identity is shaped through perception. Working with photography, drawing, and artificial intelligence, she creates layered images that reflect how experience and emotion shape the way we see ourselves and others.

At the core of Poeran’s practice lies a question: what do we actually see when we look at another person? Her work reflects the gap between what someone reveals and what we project onto them, leaving space for different interpretations.

Poeran’s process begins with photography and hand-drawn sketches, followed by a dialogue with artificial intelligence as a tool. It introduces chance and unexpected details into the image. Influenced by Cubism and Surrealism, and artists such as Picasso and Braque, she creates layered and fragmented images that shift through perception.
