description
The iconography of ‘Do Not Weep for Me, Mother’ is related to the Western depiction of the Pietà. This theme developed from depictions of the Descent from the Cross and the Entombment. Christ is depicted in the tomb with his arms crossed. The Mother of God stands behind the tomb, holds the body of her son in her arms and mourns him. The cross stands in the background.
