Oriental and Asian Art

description

The flattened bottle is of rounded, rectangular form and stands on an elongated oval foot. The sloping shoulders rise to a short cylindrical neck with a flat mouth rim. The interior is very well hollowed through the narrow mouth. The base is recessed to form a foot rim. The nephrite jade is of even white tone with a greenish tinge, polished to a very smooth surface. The jadeite stopper is mounted with a glass collar and bamboo spoon.

A similar bottle is illustrated in Hugh Moss, Victor Graham & Ka Bo Tsang, A Treasury of Chinese Snuff Bottles, The Mary and George Bloch Collection, volume 1, Jade, 1995, pl. 162.
