description
Takesada Matsutani, one of the most prominent members of the second Gutai group, continues to live and work between Tokyo and Paris. On view at our booth at PAN Amsterdam 2025 are two of his works, each executed in vinyl and graphite on paper mounted on canvas. A signature feature of Matsutani’s practice—the distinctive “blob” or “bulge”—is achieved through the displacement of air: either by the artist’s own breath or with the aid of fans, hair dryers, and similar tools, coaxing the vinyl paint into its sculptural, organic form.
