description
The works of Philippe van Gele radiate an insane energy. His paintings tell something about his inner world, the fantasy of what a place in the world can look like, filled with atmospheres, energies and associations. The paint itself helps him in the search, an adventure in paint on canvas. Layer upon layer, the paint is applied thickly with a system that becomes the master in the final process. In addition to wide brushes, he often uses a large slat with which the paint is further spread under pressure. A fascinating battle with colour and structure arises.
The works show themselves to be abstract and lyrical expressionistic. The use of colour in the paintings is visually attractive and at the same time they evoke a mysterious atmosphere. Van Gele transforms a desire for the unknown in his canvases. The titles reveal the physical origin of his fantasy. It is a game of his travelling mind with the here and now, searching for a meaning in which he can immerse himself in happiness.
