Ming-Miao Ko — Porcelain in Transformation

Ming-Miao Ko (b. 1984, Taipei) is a Brussels-based visual artist whose ceramic practice explores the ambiguous territory between the body and the natural world. Working primarily in porcelain, she combines fragments of flowers, plants, bodily forms and familiar objects to create delicate imaginary organisms that appear at once seductive and strange.

Her sculptures play with our instinct to recognise and classify what we see. Their apparent fragility and formal precision gradually reveal something more sensual: petals suggest flesh, botanical forms become bodily, and the familiar slips into the uncanny. This subtle eroticism is never explicit, but emerges through suggestion, transformation and the intimate relationships between forms. Her sensitivity to small details is rooted in her earlier training in contemporary jewellery.

Trained in Taiwan, Finland and Belgium, Ko holds a Master of Fine Arts in Ceramic Art from PXL-MAD School of Arts and a Master in Contemporary Jewellery and Cultural Studies from Saimaa University of Applied Sciences. In 2024, she was an Art Prize Laureate at Ceramic Brussels, and her work is held in the permanent collections of the Frank Steyaert Museum in Ghent and the Museum of Aveiro / Santa Joana in Portugal.

For PAN Amsterdam 2026, Jonathan F. Kugel – Cabinet de Curiosités Contemporain introduces Ko's work to the PAN audience, presenting her porcelain sculptures as contemporary curiosities where nature, sensuality and the human body quietly intertwine.
