description
One of Alvar Aalto's most appreciated lampdesigns, the 'Angel Wing', was designed in 1954 for the National Pension Institute in Helsinki. The lightshade is constructed with white painted metal strips in a asymmetrical shape, resembling a wing (hense the name). The shade is mounted on a brass stem, with a singe light. The Bottom part and the base of the stem are wrapped in suptle black leather, stitched together in a singe seam. The lamp is fully stamped with both the modelnumber and maker on the upper brass ring on top of the leather wrappping. Indicating this is a very sought-after early production example in beautiful all original condition.
