For the exection of this work, Jacoba van Heemskerck was probably inspired by the oaks that stood behind the "Villa Loverendale" in Domburg. It was the summer residence of her patron Marie Tak van Poortvliet, with whom she occasionally lived together and in whose garden she had her studio.
