Detail Description
Dateable to circa 1631 – 1635 Pieter Codde in this guardroom scene portrays the “rock stars” of the period for an audience fascinated by the imagined wild and carefree life of mercenary soldiers. The immediacy of the technique employed in the panel’s execution underscores the fleeting nature of his subjects.
