The Kuyken family business, founded in Haarlem in 1904, made stamps, wooden work blocks and rolling mills for manufacturers who printed designs on wallpaper, linoleum and fabrics.
The son and daughter of the founders Marie and Fritz Kuyken followed a training at the School for applied arts in Haarlem and put the acquired knowledge into practice in designing and making Cloisonné panels, collaborating with other (ornamental) artists such as CA Lion Cachet .
The armchair F4 is a strong design by Frits Kuyken, the chair is included in the collection of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and is described in various art-historical publications.
